Centrally nestled in the shadow of the Cathkin Peak, in the Central Drakensberg, is a beautiful bed and breakfast. This business has been trading since 1998 and is now as smooth running as any well oiled and finely tuned machine might be.
It boasts the tranquility and beauty of the area, as well as five bespoke and private en suite rooms. It is the only B&B in the vicinity - surrounded by hotels and other hospitality service providers, all the while tucked securely in a private and well established, independent, peaceful estate.
The property is fully furnished and there is also a separate and private dwelling for the owner / manager.
It also needs to be said that this Bed & Breakfast has a self check-in system which frees the owner / manager up to attend to other things. There are also systems in place that enable the owner / manager to be absent from the business for a few days at a time... as we said - a very well oiled and smooth running operation.
The owner is remarried and relocating to join her husband in his hometown abroad, and you would be wise to secure an urgent viewing.
Real Property Included
Private Living quarters are inclusive of a small kitchenette area, toilet, shower and bedroom with cupboards.
The environment is secure and surrounded by mountains, backing against the Monks Cowl National Park.
The Champagne Valley is the most developed in respect to hospitality in the Drakensberg region and is very popular with so much on offer and remains a safe and peaceful place to be.
The region attracts tourists locally and internationally and certainly this B&B has predominately international guests.
There is a strong sense of community among the residents, as one finds in the country. There is access to shops and product, as well as fresh product daily. (bakery, fruit & veg, farm produce, etc)
The property is positioned within a private estate and there are no government services in this region. As such everything is managed by the estate manager - water is drawn directly off the mountain and there are reservoirs and infrastructure in place. Refuse is collected by the estate manager and his staff twice a week, and everyone has septic tanks. This particular property has five septic tanks which has ensured a trouble free plumbing system.
The property works off gas (all geysers are gas) and electricity which is supplied and billed directly by Eskom. The estate roads are maintained by the estate manager, as is the maintenance of the common ground. There are little or no fences around properties and wildlife is abundant.
Happily the estate is safe, peaceful, very organised and self sufficient and has been this way for over 45 years. The estate is run by an elected management committee and is well run and financially secure.
There is no potential for expansion as this property falls within the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as such is restricted.
This is the only B&B in the vicinity - the Champagne Valley.
There are hotels, camping sites and other such accommodation but nothing like this one.
So in truth happily this B&B is unique.
