This former boutique Hotel set in 12,140m² of tropical gardens was previously offered for sale for 3.5 million US dollars, but following the devastating storms in 2017, the owner hasn’t the heart to undertake all the renovation work that is needed. The roof has been repaired to prevent any further damage to the property, but the buyer will have to opportunity to rebuild the rest of the hotel in what ever style he or she chooses. This means that the building, in its enviable location 250 feet above sea level on the East (Atlantic) coast of Dominica, can now be purchased for half its previous price.
It used to be a small, intimate hotel that nestled into a lush hillside amid three acres of tropical gardens and forest. The design was inspired by Georgian / Caribbean architecture with high ceilings and handsome dimensions allowing natural airflow from refreshing ocean breezes. The setting is secluded and private with dramatic views over the ever-crashing waves at Wakaman Point.
All ten guest rooms have private facilities, are spacious, airy and with generous verandas facing the ocean. There are six guest rooms in the main house, two individual cottage rooms and one double cottage by the pool containing two guest rooms. In addition there is a laundry cottage and staff bedroom / shower.
Facilities used to include a lounge / library, bar / dining room and terrace, pool, and gardens leading down through the forest to the Richmond River, along which one can walk to the rocky beach below.
The hotel was operating successfully from 2003 until the hurricane in September / October 2017. The hotel had previously received two awards from Tripadvisor and earned a stellar reputation, both in the international press and on the internet. (Some photos were taken before the hurricane! Those showing the roof were taken after the roof had been repaired.)
