Michael Caspaney of Menzies Advisory, in his capacity as Liquidator of The Mary Jane Universe Pty Ltd (In Liquidation) (“the Company”), invites Expressions of Interest for the purchase of the Company’s rights, title and interest in and to the “Mary Jane Universe” suite of audio‑visual works and related products (“the Rights”).

The Rights were acquired by the Company under:

  • a Deed of Assignment dated 16 October 2021 from the original writer, Eugene Gaffney, comprising an absolute assignment of copyright (present and future), in perpetuity, in the “MJU Works”; and
  • a Development Services Agreement dated 11 October 2021 with Space Between The Gaps Films Pty Ltd (In Liquidation), under which the Company was constituted first owner of copyright and all development materials, assets and third‑party contributions were assigned to the Company (the “MJU Works Assets”).

The MJU Works include:

  • A feature film provisionally titled “Mary Jane”
  • Animation products
  • Merchandising
  • Development work‑in‑progress undertaken by Space Between The Gaps Films Pty Ltd (In Liquidation), including screenplay and associated development materials

The Rights carry the full suite of exploitation entitlements, including the right to develop, produce, distribute, market, adapt, alter, translate and rearrange the works, and the right to assign, licence or otherwise on‑dispose of the Rights to third parties.

The Rights are subject to one continuing obligation: any exploitation of the MJU Works must accord the original writer, Eugene Gaffney, a credit substantially in the form “Written by Eugene Gaffney”.

An Information Memorandum is available to interested parties on request, setting out further detail on the chain of title, underlying materials, and sale process.

At this stage, all communications will be via email.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted in writing to the Liquidator by no later than 4:00pm AEST on 12 June 2026.
Submissions should include:

  • Details of the interested party (including beneficial ownership)
  • Proposed purchase price and payment terms
  • Any conditions attaching to the offer
  • Evidence of financial capacity to complete the transaction
  • Proposed timing to completion

The Rights are offered on an “as is, where is” basis without representation or warranty of any kind from the Liquidator or the Company.
